Bowing down to Mary, praying to her, calling her ‘Queen of the Universe’ and ‘Mother of God’ (as Catholics do) is to treat her as a deity.

Iggy is just being Iggy. Bowing down to a statue is an act of worship, so even if Mary is not referred to as a “deity”, she is still an object of worship.
Moreover, there have been people who literally worshiped her as a deity, i.e., the Collyridians.
