Reading an early inscription from Taymāʾ mentioning the murder of Caliph ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (d. 35 AH). Imbert suggests it was written during the Battle of the Camel in 36 AH, but of course we can’t be sure of that. Nonetheless, both paleography and orthography are in his favour.
Translation:
“I am Qays, the scribe, Abū Kathīr. Curse of God on those who murdered ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān and those who have led to the killing without mercy.”
