Usman Sheikh discusses the historical Jesus and the historical Muhammad in western scholarship, and the subject of Quranic intertextuality. I will be making 3 smaller videos out of this blockbuster!

  1. Most of western scholarship will end up in a warm place so why should I care what it says.

  2. Paul,

At around 45 minutes, you talk about Abu Hurayra.

    What is your take on

When ‘Umar heard about it, he called him in and asked him to repeat that hadīth. Having heard him repeating it, ‘Umar struck him and said to him, “How so when Allāh Himself says it was created in six days, while you yourself now say it was done in seven?!” Abu Hurayra said, “Maybe I heard it from Ka’b al-Ahbar…” ‘Umar said, “Since you cannot distinguish between the Prophet’s ahādīth and what Ka’b al-Ahbar says, you must not narrate anything at all.”

Sadly, there is sahih hadith on this which is a clear contradiction with the Quran which says God created both heavens and earth in 6 days while the ***sahih*** hadith below falsely attributes the Prophet with the following preposterous hadith: [do we not have to be suspecting of Abu Hurayra’s hadith or to some of his students?]

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “The Messenger of Allah took my hand and said: ‘Allah, (Glorified and Exalted is He,) created the earth on Saturday, and over it He created the mountains on Sunday. He created the trees on Monday, He created things entailing labor on Tuesday, He created light on Wednesday, He scattered the animals in it on Thursday, and He created Adam, peace be upon him, after ‘Asr on Friday, the last of creation in the last hour of Friday, between ‘Asr and nightfall.”

  3. Outside Islamic sources there is no “historical Mohammed”.

    • Please stop avoiding the question posed…I repeat it below.

  4. 700 years after Jesus lived the islamic “Isa” is made to play a role similar to that of John the Baptist in the gospels. He announces the advent of someone coming after him and calls the people to repentance. It can’t be more obvious that this stuff is made up based on the existing paradigms that Judaism and Christianity conveniently provided for those who invented Islam.

  5. “It can’t be more obvious that this stuff is made up based on the existing paradigms that Judaism and Christianity conveniently provided for those who invented Islam.”

Jesus is not a Christian, he has God, he worships The One and only True God, so who invented Christianity that worship 3 in 1 god?

  6. “he has God, he worships the One and only true God”

As a human he has to worship God or he would be breaking the law and would disqualify as a mediator. What would otherwise be the purpose of his coming in to the world?

A necessary paradox but nonetheless if God made it possible and necessary for my salvation then who I am to argue with him?

  7. “As a human he has to worship God”

God is not a human, so who invented Christianity that worship human as god who worships god?

  8. If you can’t prove rate it at least rate it and create a “chain of narration” for it. That seems to be Islam’s motto.

I’m suspicious of a religion where the polemic comes first and the sayings and doings of the star of the show trickle down hundreds of years later. Why didn’t they both appear together contemporary with each other like the bible? Looks like the storytellers needed some time to build an historical structure around the koran itself and create an arabic prophet to match up with the text of the koran.

My book recommendation: the KJV bible. Good for your pocket cause you only need one book.

The more books you buy the more your insecurity about what is the truth? I wouldn’t like to hazard a guess as to how much PW has spent on books. I would guess a small fortune over the years.

  9. “Circulating in the first century” hadises? 21 per cent?

    In what form?

Yes , just accept blindly the informants of the informants because their names are written down somewhere?

Or just put observations in the minds of those who supposedly lived at the time of the supposed prophet of Islam?

If modern scholars have to defend anything we know that whatever they are defending cannot be defended with strict scientific evidence. It has to be defended by appealing to human authority.

  10. The koran redacts the biblical stories, as he mentions, so both books can’t be true. One contains lies and the other doesn’t.

His claim about Moses leprous hand does not match the biblical text:

And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

Don’t know how bible bashing proves that Mohammed is historical. He seems to go off on a tangent towards the end of what was supposed to be a seminar about evidences for the historicity of Mohammed. I can only guess he quickly ran out of any hope of offering any objective evidence for Mohammed’s existence and life as claimed in the islamic sources.

  11. Abraham: God is 1
    Moses: God is 1
    Jesus: God is 1
    Muhammad: God is 1
Christian: God is 3 in 1

    So who invented Christianity?
