    • Ken you are wrong.

Sola scriptura (by scripture alone in English) is a theological doctrine held by some Protestant Christian denominations that the Christian scriptures are the sole infallible source of authority for Christian faith and practice. (From article on Wiki)

Jesus of course never taught this. How so? Because The New Testament had not been written during his lifetime and he never once mentions a canon of scripture to be added to the Torah. The canon was finalized in the form we have it today only centuries later.

      ———————————-

Sola fide = justification by faith alone, is a Christian theological doctrine commonly held to distinguish many Protestant denominations from the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox churches. The doctrine asserts that it is on the basis of their faith that believers are forgiven their transgressions of the law of God rather than on the basis of good works which they have done. This forgiveness is known as “justification”. In classical Lutheran and Reformed theologies, good works are seen to be evidence of faith, but the good works themselves do not determine salvation. (From article on Wiki).

Jesus did not teach this. In fact he taught that good works DO determine salvation. See this:

      Matthew 25:31-46

      The Judgment of the Nations

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,[a] you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Matthew 25:40 Gk these my brothers

      • No, I proved you wrong by the verses I gave that Jesus spoke.

      • LOLOL

Matthew 25 refutes your sola fide dogma. Works are key to salvation. Jesus said it – not me. I even quoted the passage for you 😉

        Admit you are refuted Ken.

      • In order to do good works you first have to become a sheep, not a goat,
in order to become a sheep there must be faith in Christ and all that he is in his deity, his person and his work on the atonement and his resurrection .
Jesus said my sheep hear my voice and John 10 verse 27 –
so in order to do those good works you first have to become a sheep and a sheep can only be when there is true faith so the whole New Testament teaches justification by faith alone But true faith does not stay alone, it results in good works as the passage in Matthew 25 teachers so there’s no contradiction and you were wrong

      • You admit that you are refuted Mr. Paul

      • Jesus refutes you Ken.

Let’s focus how we become sheep shall we? As you are intent on ignoring the passage:

Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’

No mention of justification by faith. On the contrary, people are accepted by God and enter heaven by their good works.

      • Good works are the results of true faith in Christ.

Jesus said my sheep hear my voice

        John 10:27

      • Jesus: sola fide is not a factor on the Day of Judgement Matthew 25:31-46.

      • Ken, hope your doing well. In your last 2 comments you mentioned the word “faith” 5 times and it occured to me that your not actually “following” jesus, am I right? Are you really going on about this new covenant nonsense in the 21th century and still following apostle paul and unknown authors? Be reasonable, no one is trying to take away your faith in the creator once you’ve believed. It’s your theology that is incorrect and I hope your not inclined to a deluded religion any longer, for what ever reason and come back to your senses

  3. Therefore Jesus did teach those principles

  4. @Sabit Cekic:
Thanks, I hope you are doing well, also.

Except Jesus Himself said to believe in Him. (have faith)

    Mark 1:15
    Jesus said: Repent and believe!

    John 11:25

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,

    John 6:35
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

The power to grasp these things is only by the invisible grace from the Father and the Holy Spirit in opening the heart:

25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants.
26 Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight.
27 All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

    Matthew 11:25-30

Once you become a true believer, a true sheep, then, and only then, you can do good works, as in the Matthew 25 passage.

Unbelievers cannot hear or understand nor are “of God” = “you are not of My sheep”
John 8:43 – “you cannot hear My word”
John 8:47 – “you are not of God”
John 10:26 – “you are not of My sheep”

    • I am still waiting for you to admit your Sola scriptura was never taught by Jesus:

Sola scriptura (by scripture alone in English) is a theological doctrine that the Christian scriptures are the sole infallible source of authority for Christian faith and practice. (From article on Wiki)

Jesus of course never taught this. How so? Because The New Testament had not been written during his lifetime and he never once mentions a canon of scripture to be added to the Torah. The canon was finalized in the form we have it today only centuries later.

      • John 17:8
The words from the Father You gave to me and I gave to them those words

        John 14:26

        John 16:12-13

The Holy Spirit led them into all the truth and they wrote everything we need down.

  5. Looks like ken decided to bend the knee, makes perfect sense

  6. Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God
    Matthew 4:4

Have you not read when God spoke to you?
    Matthew 22:31

God speaks when we read the writings (holy scriptures)

    Mark 7:1-14
    All traditions must be judged by the word of God , the Scriptures ;
the Scriptures are higher in authority than man-made traditions

These are all “Sola Scriptura” in principle

    Jesus taught it in principle.

    • No he did not.

Jesus never taught sola scriptura because the New Testament had not been written during his lifetime and he never once mentions a canon of scripture to be added to the Torah. The canon was finalized in the form we have it today only centuries later.

You are guilty of reading much later ideas back into the words of Jesus.

      • Yes He did. Not only the above verses teach it. (Matthew 4:4; 22:31; Mark 7:1-14)

He said “I have many more things to reveal to you . . . ” John 16:12

“When the Holy Spirit comes, He will lead you into all the truth.”

        John 14:26; 16:13

All the 27 books of the NT are Jesus’ words to the disciples / apostles, inspired by Him through the Holy Spirit.

        They are all “God-breathed”.

      • Ken: They are all “God-breathed”

You quote from 2 Tim 3:16 which when read in context only refers to the OLD TESTAMENT. The NT canon of course did not yet exist. That’s very sloppy Ken!

But as for you Timothy, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, 15 and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

      • 2 Tim. 3:15 is about the OT, but in verse 16, he expands it to “all Scripture” and Paul put NT on par with OT in 1 Timothy 5:17-18, quoting from OT (Deuteronomy) and NT (Luke 10:7 and Matthew 10:10) – Paul called them both: “Scripture”

  7. They really shouldn’t allow Christians to participate in jury duty. This discussion is a perfect example
