Hard to say but the issue of losing touch with our culture has been a long-standing, nationwide problem born of the individualism and americanization of the wider world: especially in the form of entertainment and industry.
As were other well-known European Muslim intellectuals of the 20th century such as Martin Lings, Frithjof Schuon, and of course its intellectual founder, Rene Guenon.

Eaton is very different from Ibn Taymiyya but they would have been a little more similar to each other if they swapped the time, place, and education they each have had been exposed to.
