The Empire Strikes Back

“The rules-based international order” means the US alone can take “pre-emptive” action against another country, carry out extrajudicial killings and assassinate members of another country’s military.

If Iran did this, it would be “state sponsored terrorism”.

Yeah, a lot of people don’t unfortunately. Yes US citizens can be put on it and this is MORE than likely what got Anwar Al Awlaki killed without due process (or any evidence presented):

“On April 21, 2014, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal ruled that the Obama administration must release documents justifying its drone killings of foreigners and Americans, including Anwar al-Awlaki.[232] In June 2014, the United States Department of Justice disclosed a 2010 memorandum[233] written by the acting head of the department’s Office of Legal Counsel, David Barron.[234][235] The memo stated that Anwar al-Awlaki was a significant threat with an infeasible probability of capture. Barron therefore justified the killing as legal, as “the Constitution would not require the government to provide further process”.[45] The New York Times Editorial Board dismissed the memo’s rationale for al-Awlaki’s killing, saying it “provides little confidence that the lethal action was taken with real care”, instead describing it as “a slapdash pastiche of legal theories—some based on obscure interpretations of British and Israeli law—that was clearly tailored to the desired result.”[236] A lawyer for the ACLU described the memo as “disturbing” and “ultimately an argument that the president can order targeted killings of Americans without ever having to account to anyone outside the executive branch.”[237]

  2. The global strategic implications of this are unknown, though if Chaos Theory is involved then we can be certain of a few things: high sensitivity to initial conditions in a non-linear dynamical system.

  3. Reminds me of some assassinations in Medina.

Really? It reminded me of some assassination in the Levant:

After Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he ushered out those who had carried it. 19But upon reaching the idols near Gilgal, he himself turned back and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.”

“Silence,” said the king, and all his attendants left him.

20Then Ehud approached him while he was sitting alone in the coolness of his upper room. “I have a word from God for you,” Ehud said, and the king rose from his seat.

21And Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled the sword from his right thigh, and plunged it into Eglon’s belly. 22Even the handle sank in after the blade, and Eglon’s fat closed in over it, so that Ehud did not withdraw the sword from his belly. And Eglon’s bowels emptied. 23Then Ehud went out through the porch, closing and locking the doors of the upper room behind him….Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord, and the Lord raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud, the son of Gera
