The word “Trinity” (Latin: trinitas, Greek: trias) seem to have come into use only in the last two decades of the 2nd century; but such usage doesn’t reflect trinitarian belief. These late 2nd and 3rd century authors use such terms not to refer to the one God, but rather to refer to the plurality of the one God, together with his Son (on Word) and his Spirit. They profess a “trinity”, triad or threesome, but not a triune or tripersonal God. Nor did they consider these to be equally divine.
So what. He is capable to distinguish historical interpretation and theological interpretation of the Bible. Something the literalist exclusivist Muslim polemicist lacks.

Dale Martin is a historian and not a theologian, and by his own admission, the Trinity is a conclusion that Biblical scholars arrived at the result of the methodological tools used by Bible exegetes of using scripture to interpret scripture.
New Testament as historical literature applied a completely different method of interpretation: the historical-critical approach. The historian’s method isn’t to uphold or refute theological propositions, but rather he/she investigates into other scholarly matters, such as authorship authenticity, the process of canonization, and dating of the original texts.

Nvm sorry misread the title but still i don’t see how that shows there’s such a thing as a Trinity in the bible when he could mean that the interpretation itself is subjective
