  1. In the past, there were critics who likened the Trinity to Cerberus (intending it as an insult), US President Thomas Jefferson perhaps being the most notable example. In recent years, certain Christians have been scandalized by Dr. Craig’s attempts to employ the analogy in a positive way (perhaps James White is the most vocal example, but I also know Catholics and Orthodox who more quietly objected).

Despite all that, I still like the analogy. Of course the analogy is imperfect, as are all analogies, because nothing is precisely like God (cf. Exodus 8:10, Deuteronomy 33:26, 2 Samuel 7:22, 1 Chronicles 17:20, Isaiah 46:9). Nonetheless, many analogies can still be helpful in conveying a certain idea or an aspect of doctrine.

    • Great to see you posting Denis!

I take the view that all analogies attempting to describe God are going to be failures in that pointing to created items to describe the Uncreated Eternal is methodically flawed.
